Six New Poems

Six New Poems

Anna O’Connell

I find I really connect to open, liminal spaces and often view or visualize my emotions and experiences through them. I also want to represent the stillness of having an intense emotion or experience through an empty or unmoving space, like a photograph or screenshot. I've always been obsessed with the connections between the real and the contrived or uncanny; the separation I sometimes feel from my own emotions is a lot like the difference between an actual photograph taken by me and a Maps screenshot of somewhere else. The backgrounds of the poems are all from Google Maps locations, which connected me to the emotions I write about in each poem.
